Definitely a knife. My favourite for chopping vegetables is a knife with a broad blade, non-serrated, heavy (the weight of the knife should do the work – heavy knives are actually quite easy to handle) with a total length of about 10 to 12 inches.
Oh, the better quality knives have blades that go all the way to the back of the handle.
Alternatively you can try a smaller knife with a finely-serrated blade – good for paring.
They’re called knives… they come in many shapes & sizes.
A knife is ALWAYS better than a cutting gadget.
Either a good cleaver or a French chefs knife. Be sure they are sharp….
Pampered Chef has a good chopping gadget but pricey
Normally I would go with the knife answer, but the pampered chef chopper is pretty sweet, here is why. The best canned tomatos are the whole ones, they use the lesser grades for stewed, sauce etc. Dump the whole tomatoes in a bowl and use the chopper to dice them up for chili, spag sauce etc. Works great.
I also use it on fresh habaneros as you don’t want that much heat on your hands.
a salad shooter!!!
I love my Sunbeam Osker, small enough to keep on the kitchen counter, holds 2 cups
I agree with the first answer! Learn how to use a knife! Buy a good one and learn to keep it sharp – a dull knife is a dangerous knife!
Have to agree with the answers of the Pampered Chef chopper. I have two that I keep on my counter. I use them constantly. When I make dressing at Thanksgiving and Christmas for the onions and celery and the my chicken salad. The chop the chicken up and the celery and onions up real small. This is one of the most wonderful tools they have ever invented. I use a lot of their gadgets and love every one of them.
A nice sharp chef’s knife, my favorite brand is Wustof
I spend a lot of time chopping veggies (its part of my job) and I really hate it. I agree that a good SHARP knife is key but investing in a mini-chopper (Cuisineart and Kitchen Aid I think are the best) for 40 dollars is a bargain and a super time saver, as long are you’re not looking for perfectly shaped pieces. If you want perfectly diced veggies then you’re gonna need a knife.
